Post 78 – Warming up your home this autumn

Home

Right that’s it folks the summer season is over, which means autumn is just around the corner. The days are getting cooler and the nights are starting to draw in, which means it’s time to start transforming your home into a cosy haven. In true Ellen Writes Stuff form, let me share with you five tips on how to get your home prepared for the cold months ahead.

1. Thick curtains

Investing in some thick curtains will bring a lot of benefits to your home, not only will they prevent sunlight from passing through whilst you are sleeping, but the thick curtains can also keep rooms warmer during the winter months.

2. Tin foil behind the radiators

Did you know that your radiators lose heat through the wall? Neither did I until a couple of years ago. One of the most cost-effective ways to combat this is to place tin foil behind the back of the radiator, which will then reflect the heat back into the room, meaning you’ll be in a toaster retreat for longer!

3. Blankets

I detest putting the heating on during the winter months, especially when we all know that the price of heating is at its highest. To battle this why not wear extra clothing or invest in a couple of thick and pretty blankets; Blankets are the perfect for snuggling up to a loved one whilst you watch a film, reading a chapter of a book or simply to have a day time nap.

4. Candles

I love candles, especially ones that have a scent to them. Candles can make a home and with so many on the market, you’ll be spoilt for choice… just remember to never leave a candle unattended!

5. Fire place

I love nothing more than putting the fire on, I love the sounds and smells and most of all how much it warms the room up… nothing else quite compares to a roaring fire!

so these are my five tips to warm up your home this autumn, what’s yours? tweet your ideas to @MISSELLENJANE OR COMMENT BELOW.
